Planned Giving

Your love of and commitment to the land can live on in the hearts of those you touch through a Planned Gift to USVLT. By naming USVLT a beneficiary you are securing the future of the Upper Saco Valley. There are many ways to include USVLT in your estate plan, and it is not very difficult or expensive. Your gift may provide tax savings or help reduce the tax burden of your heirs. You can do this by:

We recommend you consult with your attorney and tax/financial advisor when considering any legacy giving option to make the right decision for you.

How To Make a Bequest Gift

  1. Engage your attorney to prepare the legal documents. You can create the bequest while creating your will or trust, or by amending an existing will or trust with a simple document.
  2. Designate an asset or a percentage of your estate to USVLT by including a bequest provision in your will or revocable trust. USVLT can be either a primary or a contingent beneficiary.
  3. If you plan to designate the use of your request to a specific USVLT property or program, please contact USVLT while drafting your will or trust to ensure we can meet your wishes.
  4. Let USVLT know of your commitment, which helps us plan and ensure that your wishes can be fulfilled. This is especially important for restricted gifts, and gifts of real estate.
  5. Once USVLT receives the gift after your lifetime, we apply it to the purpose(s) you specified. At USVLT, any unrestricted charitable gifts are used to support our top conservation priorities.
  6. Your distribution is fully deductible for federal estate tax purposes. There is no limit on the deduction your estate can claim. In most states with inheritance taxes, the gift is usually exempt.
  7. To name USVLT in your estate plan, please identify us as:
