Keep Me in the LoopUSVLT Pleased to Announce ‘Bun Lucy Field’ Project Completion
Conway, NH - Upper Saco Valley Land Trust is pleased to announce its newest land conservation success - The ‘Bun Lucy Field.’ The completion of this project ensures the protection of 38.5 acres of field and forest fronting on West Side Road and the Saco River.
The commitment to ensure that this land remains undeveloped forever protects:
· Over 1,000 feet of shoreline and natural habitat along the banks of the Saco River
· Over 2,000 feet of forested buffer and natural habitat along Lucy Brook
· Scenic views of fields and forests from West Side Road and Cathedral Ledge
· High Priority Water Supply Lands within the Wellhead Protection Area for the North Conway Water Precinct
· High-transmissivity soils overlying the Saco Aquifer
· 16 acres of prime farmland soils within 20 acres of agricultural fields
· 25 acres of the highest-ranked habitat in New Hampshire according to the 2020 NH Wildlife Action Plan & multiple rare species of plants at very high risk of extinction.
· Floodplain forests filled with silver maple trees along the Saco River
· 16 acres of hemlock-hardwood-pine forest, predominantly composed of mature sugar maples
Additionally, this newly finalized conservation easement adds to an expanse of lands already conserved by USVLT and connects to other large blocks of undeveloped land, including Cathedral Ledge/Echo Lake State Park and the White Mountain National Forest.
USVLT would like to thank Nat & Marianne Lucy for their ongoing and steadfast commitment to conserving land and protecting the special places in our valley. USVLT is only able to continue to protect the places we call home because of the support and foresight of individuals like them.
This project was also made possible by generous funding through the NH DES Drinking Water and Groundwater Trust Fund Program.
